The Facts Speak For Themselves ~ Gypsy Rose Blanchard Case Part 1
Hi Everyone. I know it's been a few days since I've had the oooomph to write another crime case that is so bizarre and with so many twists; society is split on the aftermath. We're going to discuss the Gypsy-Rose Blanchard case...
Gypsy-Rose Alcida Blanchard-Anderson was born July 27, 1991 to Rod Blanchard and Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard. Her mother being 7 years older than Rod, who was only 17 years old when Gypsy Rose was born.
(I do need to note that Rod Blanchard was not very involved with her life; not from his lack of trying though!!!)
To jump right into the case, Dee Dee was very assertive right from the time Gypsy was born that she was a sickly baby. Dee Dee told Gypsy she had Muscular Distrophy when she was about six or seven and that she required a walker to get around; a year or so later, Gypsy was on a motercycle with her grandfather who ended up in a minor accident, with only Gypsy scraping her knee. Dee Dee used this opportunity to put Gypsy in a wheelchair, telling her it was a necessity.
Hurricane Katrina hit the west coast, devastating parts of the United States on August 29, 2005; including Louisiana where Dee Dee and her daughter, Gypsy lived. A fact that gave Dee Dee many, many ways to get away with the hideous acts she would commit against her own child. They moved to Aurora, MIssouri where Gypsy is honoured with "Child of the Year" award, in 2007. It was also at this time that Gypsy-Rose KNEW she didn't the feeding tube AND she could walk!!!
(You cannot tell me that she was not of "sound mind" when she had her boyfriend brutally murdered her mother ... but we will get to that part in a few...)
The following year, in 2008, Habitat for Humanity got together and built a quaint lil house for them, with a beautiful wheelchair ramp and a hot tub and they moved to Springfield, Missouri. Word had spread around town and pretty much through the whole country... people funding the "poor single mother of a very disabled child, who lost everything in the horrific Hurricane."
Gypsy played the role well. She wore glasses way to big for her face, a lot of her teeth were missing, she was only 4ft 11in, and with her using a high pitched child like voice she became quite charming to most of the people she met. Dee Dee would even shave her head so it looked like she was talking chemo. To keep up appearances, Dee Dee would make sure that they took oxygen tanks and feeding tubes with them. Gypsy was pretty much fed Pediasure well into her 20s.
It IS obvious that Dee Dee had most of the control in their mother/daughter dynamic because any time Gypsy was meeting with a neighbour, a stranger or any of the doctors, if she seemed to hesitate in revealing the story her mother told her, Dee Dee would squeeze her hand to ensure she said what was needed. Dee Dee also forged a fake birth certificate claiming Gypsy was younger than she actually was.
(At home Dee Dee would often physically abuse Gypsy, using coat hangars on top of her own hands to hit her.)
The one thing that Gypsy really got to enjoy were the fantasy and sci-fi conventions her mother took her to. She began going to those beginning back in 2001. Finally at one of the conventions in 2011, Gypsy's attempted to escape her mother's clutches.
Dee Dee found Gypsy at a hotel with the man she had met online. When they returned home, Dee Dee went on a rampage and smashed Gypsy's laptop; promising the next time it would be Gypsy's fingers she will smash with that hammer.
After this event, Gypsy claimed her mother chained and handcuffed her to her bed for TWO WEEKS... I am not saying whether this was true or not, but I can confirm the police never found handcuffs, straps nor a leash.
Dee Dee DID tell her daughter that she had already been to the police and had filed her as "mentally incompetent", which supposed made Gypsy believe if she went to the police with the truth, no one would believe her.
