The Grisly Greyhound Bus Murder That Shook Canada ~ Aftermath
This was another case that took a toll on many, many people; none more than Tim's parents.
The McLean family sued Greyhound and later on Li, himself; but Tim's father said back in 2018 that the suit is sitting in limbo. In February 2011 and July 2015, four more passengers came forward with a lawsuit against Greyhound.
This is the part of this case that BLOWS MY MIND!!!
The murder happened in 2008, the courtcase didn't happen until 2009, but authorities decided that Vincent Li could have outside walks, that were supervised already by June 3, 2010. On May 30, 2011, it was said that he was responding well to his treatment and he should be allowed more freedom, but done in phases. He was able to go into town by May the following year, supervised of course... At this time he also issued a formal apology to Tim's family.
Starting in February 2014, Vincent Li was given permission to leave the facility unsupervised for about 30 minutes, which eventually phased into full day trips.Sadly, what people don't always think of, is how the first responders are affected by such a gruesome scene. On July 17, 2014, Corporal Ken Barker of the RCMP, had committed suicide. He had been suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
If you ask me, Li should face the consequences for his death too... it was, after all, his actions that triggered the LEO.
As the phasing out continued, it was finally in February 2016, that Li changed his name legally to Will Lee Baker, and he was officially allowed to move out of the grouphome and into his own place. He won this right from the Criminal Code Review Board, and to just to twist the knife even further (No pun intended)...In February 2017, he was given an absolute discharge, which means he didn't have any restrictions placed on him whatsoever!!!
Needless to say, this ruling is a bitter pill to swallow. Vincent Li aka Will Lee Baker, now roams free AFTER he stole the life of a young man who had his entire future ahead of him. Make this make sense!!! I'd like to end this off with us remembering his victim and the terrible loss his family endured..
