The Brutal Tale of Allan Legere aka Monster of the Miramichi Trial ~ and Aftermath

After one of the largest manhunts, Canada has ever endured (at this point), Allan Legere was arrested and returned to prison, to serve out the last time of his previous conviction for rape and murder of the elderly, John and Mary Glendenning.

In August 1990, another nine years were put on top of the original sentence for his escape

In November of 1990, there was a new indictment and Allan Legere was set to face a new trial, charged with four cases of first degree murder (Annie Flam, Nina Flam, Donna Daughney and Linda Daughney). What makes this case so prominent??? It is the first case in Canadian history to ever convict on DNA profiling (which had previously only been used to exonerate the accused).

After less that 3 hours of deliberation, the jury came back with a guilty verdict for all four charges. Allan Legere was sentenced to life in prison, without the possibility for parole for 25 years. He was sent to the maximum security prison in Ste-Anne-Des-Plaines, Quebec.

In 2015 he was transferred to the Edmonton Institution of Corrections, a maximum security prison in Edmonton, Alberta. It has been noted by authorities that even now Allan Legere is a flight risk. He went up for parole in August 2020, and his day parole was denied.

He then faced parole board again, in January 2021 to which he was again denied. Allan Legere still refuses to admit to his crimes and is not taking accountability for two of the murders; venomously denying he is a sex offender and just cannot understand why people can't just "forgive and forget".

To this day, Allan Legere remains behind bars in the Edmonton Institution!!!

An interesting, and ironic twist is that the Fredriction jail he had been staying in was converted to a forensics lab, they purposely made the cell he stayed in; the room is now specifically used to show what DNA profiling is and how it is done.
