The Grisly Greyhound Bus Murder That Shook Canada Part 2.

It is now July 30, 2008.

Tim McLean had boarded a bus in Edmonton to head to Winnipeg, after he had done his recent stint as a carnival barker. He sat in the second last row in the back, closest to the bathroom as the bus moved along. When they arrived in Erickson, Vincent Li boarded the bus, sitting at the front, until the next rest stop, in Brandon, Manitoba.

When the bus was leaving Brandon, Li, for some unknown reason, came and sat in the seat right beside Tim. This didn't seem out of the norm for Tim, who put his headphones on, leaned his head on the window and went to sleep.

Out of nowhere, Li brought out his butcher knife and began stabbing Tim in the chest and neck. Fortunately for all the other passengers and driver, they managed to get off the bus; but when three of the men attempted to rescue Tim, Li slashed his blade at them, not giving them access to the bus.

This is where the tough read begins...

Li decapitated Tim, and bravely showed all the passengers and driver the severed head. It doesn't end there... Li then returned to Tim's body and began severing other parts of his body, even eating the flesh for all to see. This went on for quite a few hours.

Around 8:30 that evening, the RCMP arrived on scene to find that the bus driver and a truck driver were equipped with crowbars and hammers to keep the suspect on the bus.

This caused for a stand-off between Li and Law Enforcement Officials (LEO). Li insisted that he was to stay on the bus forever; but by 1:30am he decided to escape through one of the bus' windows. Li was shot twice with a taser by police. He was placed in handcuffs; where the police discovered in Li's pocket, Tim's ear, nose, and tongue. It was later revealed that his both his eyes and a piece of his heart were missing; Li denies it, but witnesses seen him eating these.

One witness commented on how calm Li was; like nothing phased him; there was no rage and he was acting like a robot the entire time.

Now we have the legal proceedings...

On March 3, 2009, Li appeared before the courts, and the only thing anyone heard was Li's plea for them to kill him. He was facing second degree murder charges where he plead not criminally responsible due to mental illness. IN layman's terms, this means that he is not denying that it occurred, just that he was not of sound mind at the time.

His psychiatrist and medical experts said he did not believe he was killing a person, he felt he was getting rid of a "force of evil". He said that Tim McLean was a demon in disguise, and an alien who needed to be destroyed; the severing of body parts was to ensure that he couldn't come back to life. He insisted it was God who told him to kill Tom or Li himself would be killed.

Ultimately, both the prosecution and the defense agreed that he should be sentenced to a mental facility, rather than prison. The judge acknowledged and accepted this as his ruling; staing Vincent Li was not criminially responsible for his actions and placed on an involuntary commitment to Selkirk Mental Health Centre.
