The Baby Face Butchers ~ Central Park Murder ~ Conclusion
Both teens are now in custody of the NYPD (New York Police Department). The District Attorney (DA) feels that no jury would sentence two young teenagers on first degree murder charges, so they are both charged with manslaughter.
When each of them was questioned, there was no clear story on who did what to Michael McMorrow, it was very confusing.
Many witnesses, including character witnesses came forward, revealing they mainly stayed away from Daphne because of her unpredictable behaviour; and most of them were not surprised when they found out she murdered someone... it seems, it was only Christopher's parents that were in the dark and completely oblivious to how sinister and disturbed their son's girlfriend was.
Daphne was known for telling plenty of different stories, so no one really knew what to believe when it came to her mouth. This was the excuse most people used when they reveal that they heard Daphne say she was going to kill someone. This case quickly became THE trial to be watching; everyone was enthralled in the case of the teens with the baby faces.
Daphne seemed completely out of touch with reality, not caring what the legal system had in store for her. She showed such defiance, even when she mouthed the words, "I love you" to her parents, on the first day of the trial.
The teens were found guilty of the manslaughter charges, with Daphne pleading guilty, she went into prison in March 1998 and sentenced between 39 months (3 years and 3 months) and up to 10 years. She was released in January 2004, after serving 6 of the 10 years. Her exact whereabouts are unknown, though it is believed she still resides in New York.Christopher was also convicted of being involved in the murder of Michael McMorrow. He was given the same sentence as his girlfriend/accomplice. He was released January 21, 2004. Again, he is keeping a low profile, but it is believed he still lives in New York.
There was a minor incident on the day he was released, as media was waiting for him outside his parents' home. Christopher Vasquez suffered from agoraphobia (An anxiety disorder characterized by a specific fear of particular places and situations that the person feels anxious or panics, such as open spaces, crowded places and places from which escape seems difficult). His father became enraged with the media and broke one of the cameras, causing him to exchange punches with a reporter.
Daphne DID return to the scene of the crime and left a note on a bench nearby. It said, "Rest easy. I tried to save you. I’m sorry I failed you. I’m sorry for the pain I caused you & your family." This is not the end of her legal problems, as she would be arrested again on October 13, 2004, when she uttered death threats to another woman. Daphne was given a curfew of 7a to 7p.
Daphne remained quiet for a while. In November 2009, Daphne would be on the opposite side of the courtroom, as she filed a law suit citing "serious personal injury" after being involved in a car accident that past April.
May you Rest in Peace Michael McMorrow (May 1952 - May 1997)
