Soldier to Healer to Night Shift Killer ~ Angel of Death Part 4
As I had mentioned this case will be in 5 parts, as it is quite a lengthy case; too much to cram into only 4 parts, I am not even into the investigation part yet...
Amy Loughren was working the nightshift with Charles Cullen in the intensive care unit (ICU) when things started to seem a little suspicious. The number of deaths were escalating.
It finally came to head when the death of patient, Reverend Florian Gall occurred. He had been improving quite nicely; then suddenly he passed away; triggering an investigation. The authorities came to see Amy Loughren about their patient's death and after she reviewed the file herself, she agreed that something was amiss. She definitely knew something was wrong when she saw in the documentation that the medications her colleague Charles Cullen ordered didn't make sense.
She told investigators,“There were so many withdrawals of lethal medications that you wouldn't order unless you wanted to kill someone.”Amy didn't want to be involved in the investigation, but she seemed like the only one who would be able to get a confession from Charles at this point. After some hesitation, she wore a wire; feeling deeply conflicted on the issue. She went out to lunch with Charles Cullen and began questioning him about everything that had transpired. Cullen wasn't dumb and didn't reveal everything to his friend and co-worker; but according to Amy Loughren:
“He sat straight up. The color of his eyes changed. He put a smirk on his face and said, 'I'm going to go down fighting.'”
