Dr. Quincy Fortier ~ Case of Psycho Fertility Doctor Playing God Pt 1.

 

Good day Crime buffs. I know it has been a while since I have been able to write about any cases, but unfortunately life sometimes gets in the way, even taking away from the things we absolutely love doing... I am hoping to do some catching up in the next few days; as long as my own health holds up. So let's just jump into this case. 

I have to admit, I didn't know too much about this one, although I had heard vaguely about this truly disturbing, twisted story of a man who took advantage of some of the most vulnerable people you could imagine... people desperate to become parents by any means possible... but nothing like this could have even been imagined; other than in the most sick of minds...

I am talking about the late Dr. Quincy Fortier. If you have not heard about him, after you read his case here, try finding the HBO special about him called, "Baby God". I promise for those of us who love a good crime story, this one will not disappoint. I can actually admit this one sends shivers down my spine when I think about it.

Dr. Quincy Fortier, was supposed to be one of those medical professionals that you could trust with your utmost vulnerable state; particularly those of a infertile couple who were desperate to have a child of their own. 

He was a fertility specialist working out of Las Vegas, Nevada... and let me tell you, not one of his patients could have bet any amount of money on what was happening to them behind closed doors.

Beginning in the 1960's, Doctor Fortier had decided to take full advantage of the field he was working in. At the beginning of his career, he was able to do so since using a fertility specialist was such a taboo thing, that it was usually done very hush-hush. Things began as expected with a 22 year old patient named Cathy Holm, who was a newlywed having difficulty getting pregnant. She learned about Dr Fortier and how he had opened the first women's hospital in Las Vegas, with a HUGE success rate of helping women with pregnancies.

For over thirty years, Fortier would vow to his patients that he would inseminate them with their spouses' sperm and promise a successful pregnancy; which he proved to be very good at his job; his reputation spoke volumes to those seeking fertility help. Little did people know how much of a role he truly played in the pregnancy itself!!! For THIRTY YEARS he managed to evade being discovered...

One day, a grown daughter of his patient Cathy Holm, Wendi Babst, bought a DNA ancestry kit when she retired as a police detective in the Clackamas county, Oregon, sheriff’s office. Like many people around the world who were beginning to research their genealogy, Wendi Babst was hoping to discover her extensive family history and build the family tree of her ancestors. She clearly was in for a shock when her DNA test results came back with numerous close matches, but no known first cousins or half-siblings, and the repetition of a name she hadn’t heard of, Fortier.

Once Wendi Babst did some more digging the disturbing truth began to unfold around the globe as many, many people learned that Dr Quincy Fortier was not just the specialist that was a miracle worker, helping the infertile conceive... he used his own sperm for more than 30 years, well into his 70s, impregnating his own patients; without their consent!!! Imagine?!! It's like being raped decades earlier, without even knowing you had been violated at all. It's truly disgusting and very hard to wrap your mind around.
